9/100 My Best Lace for Canada House

#100SareePact 9/100 A golden brown lace I chose for a cultural and gastronomical soiree recently at Canada House!

I have decided to wear only sarees for all functions where I represent India to the outside world. With noted Canadian Chef Roger Mooking  at the Indo-Canadian soiree at Canada House!

8/100 Tiger Tiger Burning Bright

100SareePact 8/100 A favourite Satya Paul in rich chocolate colour with a subtle animal print in hues of orange, red and mustard I love. It reminds me of the famous poem by William Blake.

Tyger Tyger, burning bright,
In the forests of the night;
What immortal hand or eye,
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?

In what distant deeps or skies.
Burnt the fire of thine eyes?
On what wings dare he aspire?
What the hand, dare seize the fire?

This saree certainly makes me feel like a Tigeress, ready to take on the world. The quality of the cloth and original prints are unmatchable when it comes to Satya Paul. These sarees always make a style statement and get compliments. The best part is invariably in July their stores are on sale and that is when my birthday also comes. I love to gift myself Satya Paul sarees for my birthday!

7/100 Maroon & Grey Silk

#100SareePact 7/100 Another AWWA handloom weave. Hats off to these army wives who nurture such craftswomanship. Making so many ladies self dependent at Maratha Regimental Centre, Belgaum. Wear proudly!

6/100 Mustard Masterstroke

17 Mar 2015

6/100 A very dependable mustard orange crepe with a timeless paisley print, perfect for work. Had it for over 18 years, one of those perfect interview sarees! I accesorise it differently over the years of course!

This is one of those classic crepe sarees that the sales staff of Taj was known for. These sarees were breezy and light to drape, would not crease easily after 9 to 6 getting into cabs and waiting at office receptions and meetings and scurries through traffic and quickly grabbed lunch at Khan Market and summer headaches and monsoon showers.

Pretty much an all weather, all terrain saree, it gave us freedom from the stuffy kanjeevarams preferred for front office and housekeeping department staff.
It's the perfect working woman saree and I still love it.

5/100 A Peachy Peach Georgette for a Wedding

5/100

5th Saree this year was a salmon pink-peach Mysore georgette I wore for a sweet colleague's wedding. Peach is my favourite colour and georgette is pretty much my favourite drape as it does not overpower you in any way and is very easy to wear. This colleague of mine, Anjali is a livewire and in the year that I spent with her, she gave us all so much love, laughter, warmth, laughter and sunshine. She was the youngest team member of our team, bubbly and effervescent but somehow she held us together with her natural abilities. I got this saree from Bangalore 2 years ago and couldn't think of a better saree for Anjali's wedding. Its a light weight yet formal saree, easy to drape and carry, decorous, dignified yet devastatingly cool......just like Anjali!

4/100 A Turquoise and Maroon Symphony

#100SareePact- 4/100 a Maharashtrian weave crafted by AWWA ladies from my father and father inlaw's Maratha regiment. It's got an earthy handloom feel. It is a very innovative design, I must say. Kudos to these simple, often not highly educated ladies who hail from remote villages in India and join their husbands in faraway regiments, shy and demure but a little encouragement and intervention, and they transform into confident and creative bundles of enterprise. Everytime I drape this saree, I marvel at this very unusual combination, turquoise and maroon, a fine check body and a traditional border, on top of that very subtle maroon embroidery booti all over. Everyone always compliments it. Paired here with my turquoise beads from Leh. I call it my Suchitra Sen look!

3/100 Kashmiri Emroidery on Bottle Green

15 Feb 2015
#100SareePact 3/100 is a relatively new bottle green Crepe with fine Kashmiri embroidery. It's got a very nice drape and love teaming it with these chunky green stones from Leh.
